Prepare records for archival transfer

Review records, metadata, sensitivity and technical usability before proposing transfer.

A transfer should identify the creating body, records covered, date range, extent, retention position, sensitivity and closure review, metadata and file structure, preservation risks and the source records schedule.

Do not transfer live casework merely to remove it from a department. Current operational records remain with the responsible authority until their business and legal retention requirements are complete.

Where records are digital, preserve usable files and the metadata or contextual information needed to understand them.
